Choosing a car for an industrial day

A rental car is for people, not pallets. If the job means moving tools, parts or cargo, look at the commercial vehicle category instead. For passengers, an economy car suits one or two people moving between sites, while a midsize car or SUV gives a crew of three or four room for bags and safety gear. Read the specification of the exact model, because boot size and seating differ inside a category.

Kilometres decide a monthly rental

Under the published terms, a monthly rental includes 2,500 km for economy, standard and SUV classes, with higher allowances listed as upgrades. Spread over 26 working days that is about 96 km a day. A shuttle between Mussafah and the island and back may fit that, while a day spent driving between several plants may not. A weekly rental includes 1,400 km and a daily rental 200 km for the same classes. Excess kilometres are charged per kilometre, so a short call before you book costs less than a surprise at return.

Routes in and out of the sectors

Traffic into Mussafah reaches the sectors from the Mussafah Bridge corridor on the island side and from Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Shabiya on the mainland. Heavy vehicles share these roads at shift changes, so allow extra time at the start and end of the working day. Park in authorised visitor or staff bays and keep loading areas and workshop entrances clear unless site management tells you otherwise. Ask site security whether it needs the driver's name and the vehicle plate in advance, and send both as soon as the car is confirmed.

Handover in a district of numbered sectors

Mussafah is divided into numbered M-sectors, and a company name alone rarely tells a driver where to go. When you request a car, give the sector, the building or yard name, the gate and a phone number the security desk can answer. If you prefer to collect in person, the Abu Dhabi branch is in Musaffah M20 (Shop G23, Energy Building), and the terms ask for at least 24 hours of notice for collections outside Dubai. Delivery and collection to a site are charged separately, so ask whether your sector is covered and what it costs before you pay. At handover, photograph the car and keep the images with the agreement, since they are your record if a question comes up at return.

Rules to read before you collect

The standard minimum age is 21, and drivers aged 21 to under 25 are treated as young drivers who need approval and an additional charge. The licence must be valid and recognised in the UAE for the vehicle you rent, so visitors on assignment should check theirs before they travel and bring their passport and entry or visa evidence. Every extra driver must be named in the agreement and carries a fee. Return the car with about the fuel level recorded at collection. Salik and other tolls are charged with a disclosed administration fee. Up to 60 minutes of lateness is not charged, subject to approval. A security deposit may be required, the amount is told to you before or during booking, and the balance is refunded within 21 calendar days after return.
