Comparing Car Rentals and Public Transport
Tuesday, 14 Oct 2025

One of the busiest roads in UAE is the Dubai Al Ain Road. It links Dubai to Al Ain and is utilized daily by the locals, workers and tourists going in each direction. This is a very moving road as it crosses through towns, service stops and even some attractions. Should you go by road or car rentals is the question that most travelers always ask? You can go with both options and find the merits in each of them depending on your budget, time, and mode of traveling.

Traveling on Dubai Al Ain Road

It takes approximately an hour and a half by road to travel between Dubai and Al Ain. One can travel through bus, shared taxi, or car rental.

  1. Public Buses: They are the most inexpensive but fixed-timed buses and take longer to reach their destinations.
  2. Shared Cabs: Uber is costlier than buses and the ride lacks privacy.
  3. Car Rentals: Flexible and comfortable, it is best to use in the case, when you want to make stops on the way or travel with your family.

Buses can be cost effective to solo travelers. To families or groups, car rentals can make the trip less difficult and even cheaper in a scenario where the price is shared.

Comparing Costs and Comfort

Price is always a big factor. The cost of a bus ticket between Dubai and Al Ain is approximately AED 25 to AED 35, however the journey may take two hours or longer. Sharing a taxi will cost AED 40-50 and will save some time. A typical car that is rented out is between AED 120-180 a day, and there are SUVs that are more expensive. Luxury rentals begin at AED 400 and above.

Public Transport Routes

Along this highway buses are well arranged. The primary one is the E201 that links the Al Ghubaiba Bus Station in Dubai to the Al Ain Bus Station, and is scheduled at an average of 30 45 minutes per way. Alternatively, there is the E16, which runs between Bus Station Sabkha, but it is a little bit longer. There are also shared taxis on various positions in Dubai that directly transport to Al Ain with fewer stops.

Time, Convenience, and Safety

Hiring a car is normally quicker as you work at your own time. The public buses can consume up to two hours in the traffic and stops. Cabs are faster and less intimate. Safety is good in both cases. The drivers of RTA buses are trained drivers and the rental cars are safe provided you observe road rules.

Final Thoughts

In case of solitude, the Dubai Al Ain Road is cheap and accessible in terms of transportation. In case you have relatives or prefer to be more comfortable and free, rent a car. Both are safe but your budget time and style of traveling will determine what is the best.
