So the first mile is easy, and the car matters for the trips that start beyond the station: a client in another district, a school or clinic across town, a family lunch at the beach or a late return from the airport when a queue of taxis is the alternative.

When a car beats a taxi here

A daily rental pays for exactly the days you drive, which suits short stays. If you will drive most days of a week or longer, ask for a weekly plan as well and compare the totals; economy, standard and SUV classes include 200 km a day or 1,400 km a week under the published terms.

Handover at a compound or a building

Villa compounds and some towers control access, so a map pin alone may leave a driver at a barrier. Send the compound or building name, the villa or unit number, the gate or entrance you want used and a phone number that will be answered. Tell your security desk to expect a delivery. The terms list delivery and collection charges separately, so the quote shows what yours will be; whether a particular compound is covered is confirmed there, not assumed.

Choosing the car

Streets near City Walk and the compounds are tight at busy times, so a compact or midsize car is easier than a large SUV unless you carry passengers or bags. If the trip is an occasion and you want something special, the luxury category lists the current cars; premium and luxury cars follow a different mileage schedule from economy, standard and SUV classes, so ask for it before comparing prices.

Parking and the evening rush

Weekend evenings are busy around the dining and shopping streets, and parking near them is often paid and time-limited. If you plan an evening out, leave a margin before the return time, because delays at a busy junction are the usual cause of a late handback.

Rules to read before you collect

You must be 21 or older to rent. Young drivers, meaning those from 21 up to 24, need approval and pay an additional charge under the terms. A driver who is not named in the agreement may not drive, and every named driver needs a licence recognised in the UAE. Return the car with about the fuel it had at collection; Salik and tolls are billed at cost plus an administration fee. Up to 60 minutes of delay at return is not charged, subject to approval, but a delay of more than two hours can cost a full day.

Any balance of the deposit is refunded within 21 calendar days of return, after fines, damage and extra kilometres have been settled.
