Dubai Announces Dh2 Billion Road Project Linking Major Highways

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced a Dh2 billion road project on July 13, 2026, that will create a new 12-kilometre strategic corridor linking Sheikh Zayed Road through Al Khail Road, Al Meydan Street, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street to Emirates Road. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2028.

Project Scope and Expected Impact

RTA said the corridor will reduce travel time between Umm Al Sheif Street and Emirates Road from 33 minutes to 15 minutes — a 54 percent reduction. The project is designed to relieve pressure on some of Dubai's busiest roads, including Al Khail Road, Umm Suqeim Street and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

The announcement follows a broader pattern of RTA road investment across 2026, including upgrades to Hessa Street, Oud Metha, Ras Al Khor Road and Al Khail Road, several of which RTA said had already cut travel times by between 15 and 80 percent on specific stretches.

UAE Relevance

For commuters and businesses operating vehicles across Dubai's major corridors — including rental and leasing customers whose daily routes often cross these roads — the project represents one of the largest single infrastructure investments aimed at congestion relief announced so far in 2026. Because the corridor links multiple existing highways rather than creating an entirely new route, RTA expects it to deliver network-wide benefits beyond the immediate project area once complete.

As with all multi-year infrastructure projects, motorists should expect temporary diversions and lane closures during construction phases ahead of the 2028 completion date.
