GCC BMW SUV Owners Flagged as Saudi Arabia Recalls Braking-System Fault

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Commerce recalled 264 BMW vehicles in mid-August 2026 over a defect in the Integrated Braking (IB) system that could interfere with electronic signals and reduce braking performance. The recall affects several of BMW's largest and most popular SUV models in the GCC.

Models Affected

The recall covers the BMW 7 Series, X7, XM, X6, X1, X2 and X5 — a broad range spanning compact crossovers to full-size luxury SUVs that are widely sold across the Gulf. According to the Ministry, the defect in the Integrated Braking system could interfere with electronic signals and reduce braking system performance, increasing the risk of an accident.

This is the second distinct BMW safety recall issued by Saudi authorities within a matter of weeks in 2026, following a separate, larger recall in July covering seat-wiring defects in 5 Series and 7 Series vehicles.

What UAE Owners Should Know

As with other Saudi-issued vehicle recalls, this action applies specifically to vehicles registered through the Kingdom's BMW distribution network. UAE owners of the affected models — particularly those who purchased a vehicle in Saudi Arabia before relocating, or who own a GCC-specification unit manufactured in a similar production window — are advised to confirm their VIN status directly with BMW's UAE-authorised dealers rather than assume the recall automatically applies.

Braking-system defects are treated as a serious safety category, and owners of any affected model should prioritise a dealer check promptly once their vehicle's status is confirmed.
