Dubai learners can now see where they failed their yard test

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced the next generation of its Smart Test System (STS) for light-vehicle yard tests, using artificial intelligence, computer vision and data analytics to score learner drivers. WAM reported the launch on 29 September 2026.

How the system works

RTA says the system evaluates each learner against consistent criteria, which should reduce variation between assessments. Tracking based on Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) positioning is accurate to about two centimetres and helps detect errors in vehicle path and parking position.

After the test, an interactive 3D map shows the route and where major and minor errors occurred. Khaleej Times and Gulf Business also report that results are calculated without human intervention and that the system includes collision avoidance with automatic emergency braking.

Training link

Sultan Al Akraf, Director of Drivers Licensing at RTA's Licensing Agency, described the system as a step in RTA's smart transformation of licensing services. RTA says test results will be linked to training systems so that tuition can be tailored to each learner. The reports reviewed do not say when every test centre will switch over.

What This Means for UAE Drivers

Learners taking the light-vehicle yard test in Dubai should expect scoring against fixed criteria and a visual review of mistakes, which may help those who need to retake the test. Driving schools may use the data to adjust training. The change applies to yard tests, not road tests, according to the reports.
