Dubai Parking Zones Explained: Codes, Timings and How to Pay

Quick answer: Dubai's public parking is divided into zones shown on signs as a number plus letter code (for example 318W or 345CP). The letter shows the zone type, and a "P" marks premium parking. Premium spaces cost AED 6 an hour at peak times and standard spaces AED 4, plus 5% VAT since June 2026. Paid hours are 8am–10pm, Monday to Saturday.

You've found a space. Now you're staring at a sign with "365C" on it, wondering which app to open and how much this is going to cost.

Dubai's parking system makes sense once you can read the code. This guide decodes it, explains the 2026 rates and shows every way to pay. For tolls as well as parking, see our Salik and parking guide for the UAE.

Who runs Dubai's public parking?

Parkin PJSC operates most public paid parking in Dubai on behalf of the RTA. Since April 2025, Parkin has used a variable pricing system that separates premium and standard spaces and charges more at peak times in premium areas.

How to read a Dubai parking zone code

Every paid parking area has a code on the orange-and-blue sign. It's made of:

  • A number. This identifies the specific area or community, such as 318 for part of Al Karama.
  • A letter. This shows the zone type and tariff group.
  • An optional "P". This marks a premium zone.

So 318W is a standard zone in Al Karama, and 324WP is a premium zone in Al Kifaf.

What the zone letters mean

Zone letter Type Typical locations
A On-street (roadside) Commercial streets in busy areas
B Off-street (parking lots) Plots near commercial areas
C On-street Mixed commercial/residential areas
D Off-street Lots in less central areas
E, I, J, K, L Special codes Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT)
F Special code Dubai Media City, Internet City, Knowledge Village
G Special code Downtown/Burj Khalifa, Dubai Hills, Healthcare City
H Special code Dubai Silicon Oasis
W / WP Community codes Al Karama, Al Qusais, Al Kifaf and others
X Event code Around Dubai World Trade Centre during events

Parkin has been simplifying zones into a clearer premium and standard split, and new codes keep appearing as residential areas become paid. Always read the sign where you park.

2026 parking rates

Rates depend on whether a space is premium or standard and on the time of day. Since 1 June 2026, Parkin adds 5% VAT to all parking services.

Category Base rate With 5% VAT
Premium parking, peak hours AED 6/hour AED 6.30/hour
Standard parking AED 4/hour AED 4.20/hour
Lower-tariff zone rates AED 2–3/hour AED 2.10–3.15/hour
Event zone (X) during events AED 25/hour Plus VAT

Peak hours for premium pricing are 8–10am and 4–8pm. Premium spaces are typically in high-demand areas: parts of Deira and Bur Dubai, Downtown, Business Bay, Jumeirah, Al Wasl Road and near Metro stations.

Parking a rental car in Dubai

You pay parking the same way in a rental: use the car's plate number in the app. Parking fines are linked to the plate, so they go to the rental company first and are then passed to you, often with an admin fee.

Tip for renters: add the rental car's plate to your Parkin app as soon as you collect it. Delete it when you return the car so you don't accidentally pay for a car you no longer have.

At Quick Lease car rental, we show parking fines and Salik as separate lines on your statement so you can check them against your trips. For toll billing specifically, read how Salik works on rental cars in Dubai.

When is parking free in Dubai?

  • Every night from 10pm to 8am.
  • All day on Sundays.
  • On official public holidays.

There are exceptions. Some multi-storey car parks and 24-hour zones (like certain community zones) charge every day. Ramadan also has its own timings. If a sign says 24 hours, it means it.

How to pay for parking in Dubai

  • Parkin app. Enter your plate, zone code and duration. You can extend remotely.
  • RTA Dubai app or DubaiNow. Same process, linked to your RTA account.
  • SMS to 7275. Send your plate details, zone code and number of hours in the format shown on the sign. A small SMS fee applies.
  • Parking machines. Card or nol card payments. Cash is being phased out.
  • Monthly or seasonal permits. Available through Parkin for regular parkers in specific zones.

Parking fines to avoid

Common violations include not paying, overstaying paid time, parking in a premium zone without paying the premium rate, blocking traffic or building entrances, and parking in spaces for people of determination. The fine for not paying is commonly AED 150, and serious violations cost far more, with black points for some.

Saving money on parking

  • Park in standard zones a few minutes' walk away instead of premium spaces outside the door.
  • Do errands on Sundays, when public parking is free.
  • Arrive after 10am or between 10am and 4pm to avoid premium peak pricing.
  • Consider a monthly Parkin subscription if you park in the same zone daily.

Key takeaways

  • Zone codes combine an area number and a letter; a "P" means premium.
  • Premium peak parking is AED 6/hour and standard AED 4/hour, plus 5% VAT from June 2026.
  • Paid hours are 8am–10pm, Monday to Saturday; Sundays and holidays are free in most zones.
  • Pay by the Parkin app, RTA app, SMS to 7275 or machine.
