Design and Positioning
The Land Cruiser FJ was first revealed at the Japan Mobility Show in late October 2025, ahead of launches in various global markets through 2026, including Japan in May, the Philippines in June, and Indonesia in July, before arriving in the UAE. The new model slots into the Toyota UAE line-up beneath the Land Cruiser 70, Land Cruiser Prado, Land Cruiser and Land Cruiser Hybrid.
Styling draws on the classic FJ40, with a boxy body, squared wheel arches and a rear-mounted spare wheel, giving it a distinctly retro-inspired appearance compared with Toyota's larger, more road-focused Land Cruiser models.
Specifications
The five-door, five-seat SUV is built on the same IMV platform used by the Toyota Hilux and Fortuner, with a ladder-frame chassis. It is powered by a 2.7-litre four-cylinder engine producing around 164hp and 245Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and a part-time four-wheel-drive system with a low-range transfer case and rear differential lock. Toyota has confirmed a 5.5-metre turning radius for the model, intended to aid manoeuvrability in tight urban streets as well as off-road trails.
How It Compares in the Range
Within Toyota's own UAE line-up, the Land Cruiser FJ sits close in price to the Toyota Fortuner, which starts lower at Dh128,900 but extends up to Dh173,900 across a wider range of trims and engine options, including a V6. The FJ's simpler, single-engine range gives buyers a more straightforward choice, while the Fortuner offers greater flexibility for buyers wanting more power for high-energy dune driving.
What This Means for UAE Buyers
For UAE buyers, the Land Cruiser FJ offers a new entry point into Toyota's off-road-focused Land Cruiser family at a lower price than the larger Land Cruiser Prado, aimed at buyers who want genuine off-road hardware, including a rear differential lock and part-time 4WD, without the size or running costs associated with larger Land Cruiser models.
For businesses and individuals considering vehicle leasing over ownership, the FJ's compact dimensions and part-time 4WD system may also make it a candidate for shorter-term rental or lease packages aimed at UAE residents who want occasional desert or off-road access, without committing to a larger, costlier SUV for daily city driving.
