What Changed at the Intersection
The upgrade adds a new left-turn lane from Al Ittihad Road onto Abu Hail Street towards Salah Al Din Street, created using former parallel parking space and part of the central median. Traffic signals have been recalibrated to match the new lane configuration, and additional parking has been added along Abu Hail Street.
RTA said the changes are expected to increase the intersection's capacity and cut waiting times by up to 15 percent during peak hours.
Why It Matters for UAE Motorists
Al Qiyadah Intersection sits on Al Ittihad Road, a major corridor linking Dubai and Sharjah and distributing traffic to Deira roads including Abu Hail Street, Salah Al Din Street and Al Quds Street. For the large number of daily commuters travelling between the two emirates — including rental and leased-vehicle drivers making the cross-border commute — modest, incremental capacity gains at pinch points like this one add up over a working week.
The project is one of several RTA has undertaken across Dubai in 2026 to address recurring bottlenecks without the multi-year construction timelines of larger road corridors.
