The five roads

Al Asayel Street rises from 60km/h to 80km/h. Al Mustaqbal Street and Latifa bint Hamdan Street each go from 60km/h to 70km/h. Al Rebat Street falls from 100km/h to 90km/h, and Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street from 80km/h to 70km/h.

The changes apply to specified sections of each road, in both directions. The report does not say which sections, so drivers should follow the posted signs.

Radar thresholds and fines

Gulf News explains that Dubai Police distinguishes between the posted limit and the radar control speed, which is the point at which a camera records a violation. On many major roads that threshold is typically 20km/h above the posted limit, so an 80km/h road may trigger cameras at about 101km/h. The newspaper warns that this buffer is not permission to exceed the limit.

As listed by Gulf News, fines range from Dh300 for up to 20km/h over the enforcement limit to Dh3,000 and 23 black points for more than 80km/h over. Penalties above 60km/h over also carry vehicle impoundment of 30 to 60 days.

What This Means for UAE Drivers

Drivers who regularly use Al Rebat Street and Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Street need to adjust, since their limits are falling and cameras will be recalibrated from 1 November. Navigation apps and fleet speed-alert settings may need updating. Businesses with delivery and company vehicles should brief drivers before the date, because fines are issued to the vehicle's registered owner and may fall to the fleet operator or lessee.
