Car Rental Offers in Dubai: How to Compare the Real Cost

A rental offer is a daily rate plus a handful of conditions, and the conditions decide the final bill. The rate gets the attention. This guide shows which conditions to check, using the figures Quick Lease publishes in its own rental terms, so you can run the same check on any provider in Dubai.

Quick Answer

Compare car rental offers in Dubai on total trip cost: the rental charge, plus excess kilometres, Salik crossings, additional drivers and delivery charges. Then check the deposit hold period, the insurance excess and whether you meet the age and licence rules. The lowest headline rate is the cheapest offer only when all of those lines come out equal.

What Makes Up the Real Price of a Rental Offer

Fill in the same six lines for every offer you compare. The last column shows what Quick Lease's published terms say, so you have a reference point.

Cost line What to ask any provider Quick Lease's published term
Rental charge The rate for your exact duration, and what it includes Quoted per booking: daily, weekly or monthly
Mileage Allowance in km, and the rate for every km above it 200 km/day at AED 0.50 or 100 km/day at AED 0.75 (daily and weekly); 4,500 km at AED 0.50 or 2,500 km at AED 0.75 (monthly)
Salik The per-crossing charge, not just “tolls extra” AED 5.25 per crossing, inclusive of VAT and the company's stated surcharge
Additional driver The fee for each extra named driver AED 100 per additional driver, unless your quotation states otherwise
Security deposit The amount, and how long it is held Amount communicated before or during booking; held up to 30 calendar days after return
Insurance excess The excess amount, in writing Excess or deductible amounts may apply; ask for your figure

If a provider will not give you these lines in writing before you pay, you cannot compare its offer with anyone else's. That is reason enough to keep looking.

Mileage Is the Clause That Makes a Cheap Offer Expensive

Quick Lease's terms list two mileage tiers for each rental length. Promotional or vehicle-specific packages may differ, so confirm which tier your quotation uses. If you want the bigger picture on how allowances change the maths, our guide to pay-per-day versus pay-per-kilometre rentals goes through the models.

Rental length Tier A Tier B
Daily and weekly 200 km per day, excess AED 0.50 per km 100 km per day, excess AED 0.75 per km
Monthly 4,500 km per month, excess AED 0.50 per km 2,500 km per month, excess AED 0.75 per km
Worked example

7-day rental, 1,000 km driven. On the 100 km per day tier your allowance is 700 km, so you pay for 300 km extra: 300 × AED 0.75 = AED 225. On the 200 km per day tier the allowance is 1,400 km and the excess is zero.

30-day rental, 3,200 km driven. On the 2,500 km tier you pay for 700 km extra: 700 × AED 0.75 = AED 525. On the 4,500 km tier the excess is zero.

Estimate your kilometres first, then ask for the rate on each tier. If the extra you would pay per day for the higher allowance, added up over the rental, is lower than the excess you expect to be charged, take the higher allowance.

Salik, Deposit and Extra Drivers: Three Numbers to Get in Writing

Salik

The published charge is AED 5.25 per crossing, and the terms note that rates may change. Twenty crossings in a week comes to AED 105 (20 × 5.25), which is easy to miss if you only looked at the daily rate. For how the tag, recharges and billing work on a hired car, see our Salik guide for rental and private cars.

Security deposit

A security deposit or pre-authorisation may be required before the car is released, and it can be held for up to 30 calendar days after the vehicle is returned. If you pay by card, that hold ties up part of your limit for up to a month, so ask for the amount and the release date up front. Our explainer on why car rentals charge a deposit covers what the hold is for.

Additional drivers

The published fee is AED 100 per additional driver unless your quotation states a different amount. Only drivers named on the agreement should drive the car, so add anyone who might take the wheel before you collect it.

Insurance and Cancellation: Read Two Things, Not the Whole Contract

Quick Lease's terms say that excess or deductible amounts may apply to a claim, and that, depending on the policy, items such as tyres, wheels, windscreens, keys and personal belongings may not be covered. Ask for the excess amount in writing. If CDW, SCDW and excess are new terms, this guide to car rental insurance in Dubai explains each one. Cancellation fees sit in a separate Cancellation and Replacement Policy, so ask to see that document before you pay. For the other charges that tend to catch renters out, read the unexpected costs that ruin cheap rental deals.

Daily, Weekly or Monthly: Match the Structure to the Trip

Settle the duration before you compare prices, because a rate quoted for one duration tells you little about another. Mileage is counted per day on short rentals and per month on long ones, so check the allowance against your real route.

A few days: airport arrival, business trip, short visit. Check the per-day allowance against your route.

About a week: family visit or holiday. Compare the weekly rate with the same days at the daily rate.

A month or longer: relocation, project work, daily commute. Check 2,500 km against 4,500 km.

If budget is the main constraint, start from the cheap car rental in Dubai page and apply the checks above to whatever rate you are quoted. If you keep renewing month after month, compare the numbers in monthly rental versus leasing before the next renewal.

Match the Car and the Pickup Point to the Trip

Five passengers with luggage need more space than a compact, and switching category after pickup can cost more than choosing correctly at the start. For city driving and tight parking, look at economy cars. For families and longer highway runs, SUV rentals give more room, and midsize cars sit between the two. If you are unsure how tolls and parking should shape the choice, our guide to picking between SUVs and sedans in Dubai walks through it.

Pickup matters too. Quick Lease's head office is in Al Barsha. If you are based nearby, start with our car hire in Al Barsha page. If you are landing at DXB, see our Dubai Airport Terminal 1 car rental page.

Check You Qualify Before You Compare Rates

Quick Lease's standard minimum age is 25. Drivers aged 22 to 25 may be accepted for certain rentals, subject to insurance terms, additional charges, vehicle category restrictions and approval. You need valid identification, a driving licence that is legally recognised for driving in the UAE, and residency or visa documents where required. Tourists need a licence or international driving documentation recognised in the UAE. An offer is no use if you do not qualify for it, so confirm this first. The detail is in our guides to age restrictions for renting a car in Dubai and the documents you need for car rental in the UAE.

Red Flags in a Rental Offer

  • ✕A daily rate with no mileage allowance or excess rate stated.
  • ✕“Tolls extra” with no per-crossing figure.
  • ✕A deposit amount or release timeline that will be “confirmed later”. If the headline says no deposit, read how to tell real no-deposit deals from red flags.
  • ✕No written excess amount for insurance claims.
  • ✕Terms that exist only in a chat message and not in the quotation or agreement.
Final Recommendation

Before you pay, line up the same five numbers for every offer you are considering: rental charge, mileage, Salik, deposit hold and extra drivers. The lowest total wins, even when its daily rate is not the lowest. To see Quick Lease's own terms against that check, browse the cars for rent in Dubai, or ask for your quotation in writing.

Put every offer through the same formula: rental charge, excess kilometres, Salik, additional drivers and delivery charges. Then compare the deposit hold period and the insurance excess. The lowest total, not the lowest daily rate, is the best offer. Our guide to unexpected rental costs lists the charges people miss.
